Alyssa Deonarine

Hi, I’m Alyssa, a Mental Health Counselor with a Limited Permit and psychotherapist. I work with young adults, college students, and adults navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem challenges, stress, identity exploration, and trauma-related experiences. I also have experience working with LGBTQ+ clients, including transgender individuals, and strive to provide an affirming, supportive, and culturally responsive therapeutic environment. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to the individual needs of each client. I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, strengths-based interventions, and multicultural perspectives to help clients develop insight, emotional resilience, and healthier coping strategies. I believe therapy is most effective when clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood within the therapeutic relationship. As someone with a Caribbean background, I recognize the important role culture, identity, family dynamics, and lived experiences can play in emotional well-being and personal growth. I value multicultural competence and approach each client with openness, empathy, and cultural awareness. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences, as well as a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Alongside my clinical work, I also bring a strong background in leadership, mentorship, and working with diverse populations across academic and professional settings. I understand that beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar or vulnerable, and I strive to create a warm and supportive space where clients feel comfortable exploring challenges, building on their strengths, and working toward meaningful and lasting growth.
